Myself, Ethics and Technology in Education.
Through
the development of the modules one and two in the Autonomous Learning
Environments course, I learnt that it is very important to know students´ personal
information in order to create a stronger relationship with them and among them. For instance, the Byo-data exercise gave us the
opportunity as students to know each other in a better way. I Think it was a
nice exercise that I can apply with students at school.
On the
other hand, through the reading and reflection on the article ““The Changing Role of the Language Teacher/Technologist” written by Barbara Sawhill, I could consider the
importance of using technology for teaching in order to plan more attractive
lessons that motivate students ,having a pedagogical objective for using it. Besides,
I reflected on the possibility that students can share their knowledge and
experiences with people from other cultures and countries, so that they can
learn from different kinds of people and raise their social awareness.
About the
relationship between ethics and technology, I could learn that it is necessary
that teachers be trained in how to be ethical when using technology or about
“netiquette”, because the school has the responsibility of teaching students
about how to behave properly in the cyberspace. This topic was very impressive for
me, because I had never read about it, and I believe that if students learn
about netiquette, they will avoid many online hazards.
Finally,
through the exercise of creating an Acceptable Use Policy for a school, I could
apply the different concepts that I learnt about Ethics, law and technology in
order to propose some strategies that permit students to have a better use of
technological tools not only at school, but also in anywhere.
To sum up,
these two modules have enriched my professional life as a teacher because I
could learn many new aspects related to technology which are very useful
nowadays to prepare my students in a better way to the current circumstances.
After these two modules, I see myself as a teacher who needs to be trained
constantly in order to face successfully each generation´s challenges and to
teach it in the right way.
